Painting with Ink Students created a simple still life using pen, black ink, and brushes to create gestural linear and value paintings. They learned how to create gesture and movement with the medium in quick and expressive applications. They created movement, light, shadows, and mid-tones to create the form. This lesson is an excellent introduction to mono-print making.

Mono-prints Students learned how to create high-contrast through the methods of mono-printing with black print-making ink. They created a still life that incorporated gesture, line, light and shadows. They also produced second and third prints with the same plate to create 'ghost images'. This process allowed for the decreased levels of ink to create a range of values.

Gestural Monochromatic Suite Students paint four similar, gestural and monochromatic paintings that incorporate gesture, texture, color value and color intensity. They also learn about the history of still life painting and symbolism. The incorporation of these elements, combined, create an interesting and exciting still life filled with color and movement.
